Proof of Capacity (PoC) is a consensus mechanism that determines a miner’s mining rights and ability to validate transactions based on available hard drive space. Even before the mining activity begins, a list of potential cryptographic mining solutions is stored in the mining device’s hard drive via the PoC mechanism, with larger hard drives capable of storing more potential solution values. PoC was created to address the energy inefficiencies and computation requirements of traditional Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanisms, as well as the crypto-hoarding that can occur in various Proof-of-Stake (PoS) configurations.
