Mt. Gox was a centralized cryptocurrency exchange that was hacked in 2014 and lost over 700,000 bitcoins (BTC). Mt. Gox, founded in 2010 by Jed McCaleb, was sold to Mark Karpeles in 2011, who ran it from Japan. Following the 2014 hack, Mt. Gox filed for bankruptcy and liquidation.
